Macbeth and the theme of bravery
Theme: Bravery
Quote: "Brave Macbeth, well he deserves that name" pg 9
Explanation and analyse: This quote comes from Act I scene ii and is spoken by a sergeant in the kings army. The quote is saying that macbeth was a brave and courageous fighter on the battle field even fighting two armies. The quote relates to bravery because macbeth risks his life in battle for the king. This shows how macbeth is brave and loyal to the king in the beginning of the story, but the witches change him. The act of bravery is seen many times even in todays world and in stories we hear. In the news lately a firefighter risked his life and dove into a frozen lake in order to save a drowning dog. These acts of bravery are reflected in the story of macbeth as well as in the real world.
Quote: "Thou Liest thou Shag-hair'd villain!" pg 92
Explanation and analyse: This quotes comes from Act 4 scene ii and is spoken by Macduff's son. The quote is spoken while the son confronts one of the murders after the murder calls his father a traitor. The Son bravery kicked the murder and shortly after was killed, but he never lost faith in his father. The quote means that the son doesn't believe that his father is a traitor. This quote relates to bravery because the son had to be brave in order to stand up to a man holding a knife that has been killing people, not many adults would do that let alone a child. This shows that bravery is a rare and prized trait in macbeth and the real world. I think this quote and action that takes place is very much like many movie scenes where a person is feed lies about a loved one in order for information or money, but the person stays true to the other, despite being threatened. Bravery is indeed a very powerful characteristic in us all.
Quote: "Let our just Censures Attend the true event and put we on Industrious Soldiership" pg 116
Explanation and analyse: This quotes comes from Act 4 scene iiii and is spoken by Macduff. The quote is spoken just before Malcolm's army fights Macbeth's army. The quote is shouted out to the army and it means to be brave, fight to the very end and to be brave in battle, be a good soldier. This is bravery because because even though Macduff's whole family was murdered he is still brave and helps lead malcomes army into battle even saying some inspiring words. This whole picture and scene is brave as macduff throws his sword into the air and fights for his lost family he is the definition of bravery. This scene very much reflects the people serving in the army overseas. They are brave for fighting away from there families for so long, but they do it to protect them and other in there community.
Quote: "Thou Liest Abhorred Tyrant: with my sword ill Prove the lie thou speak'st" pg 121
Explanation and analyse: This quotes comes from Act 5 scene iiiiiii and is spoken by Young Siward. He decides to battle Macduff even thou he knows that Macbeth is bigger and stronger then he is, also Macbeth says that Siward should fear him. The quote means that Siward wants to prove Macbeth wrong, that he does not dear Macbeth and no one else should either. This quote relates to bravery because Siward is confronting his fears and fighting Macbeth to prove it. unfortunately like many brave people in the story of macbeth he ends up dying. This is like in many movies when the hero has to face a to a much larger and frightful foes in order to complete his quest, but does so because he is brave and going to prove that there is nothing to be feared. Bravery in Macbeth is usually bloody ends tragically.

Character Analysis
Character: Banquo - Bravery
Banquo is one of the bravest character in Macbeth. He proves this many time throughout his short time alive in the play. He is first brave in the battle with the two armies alongside Macbeth. "Dismay'd not this our captains, Macbeth and Banquo?" In the Next scene Banquo again shows he is brave when the witches and prophecies of the witches do not phase or change Banquo in anyway. In the next scene Duncan Praises Banquo " Noble Banquo that hast no less derserv'd..." But Banquo is humble and does not show signs of betrayal after hearing what the witches said. Banquo remains Macbeth's friend and trusts him telling him to think clearly on what the witches say "pg30" and even after when he suspects him of killing Duncan. His final act of bravery was letting his son escape while he let the murders kill him, he lets his son live because he is brave and ready to die for his son. Banquo is the ideal subject in the story, he is brave, loyal and wise Macbeth didn't realize what a great friend he had.

This song is by Eminem and is titled "Lose Yourself". I picked this song because i feel like this relates to the play. The song talks about how this person only has one chance to seize everything is his life and need to take control of this one thing and be brave to do it. This happens a lot in the story of Macbeth. Such as when Macbeth is going to kill Duncan, or when Macbeth goes and sees the witches the 2nd time and when Macduff is fighting Macbeth. The theme of needing to do this one thing to have answers, revenge or wealth relates to this song. The person needs to be brave to not mess up this one shot at fixing his life and so do the people in the play. I believe this is a great pop culture reference to the play macbeth and the them of bravery.
